Venus now moves from cardinal earth sign Capricorn into fixed air Aquarius. Venus draws us closer to the divine feminine: romance, beauty, pleasure, happiness and fine art. As Venus moves from sign to sign, changes take place within the heart. Venusian energy concerns attraction: what vibes are you exuding, and what is attracting you? If Venus’ move into Capricorn was akin to clay cooling from the kiln, Venus in Aquarius breaks the clay to rearrange the pieces in a way never before seen. After becoming fully grounded again, we’re ready to get a little bit wild and crazy.

Venus in Capricorn was not particularly adventurous. We craved being lazy and settling into the couch rather than going out. The sea goat, being an earth sign, is practical and methodical. Under this influence we treated our relationships and leisure life with caution. This transit favored old-fashioned romance: going steady, no surprises. Venus in Capricorn was rather serious. We took good care of our heart, more out of fear than anything else. The sea goat is a true business person; risks and whims are unwelcome in Capricorn’s plans. The energy here was sober yet comfortable. If imbalanced, you might have felt guarded, worried or bound up inside. So, what to expect now as the Goddess of Love settles into the realm of the zany water bearer?

Breaking free of the mold

The move now is from a pragmatic heart to a detached one. Aquarius is notorious for acting cold and aloof when imbalanced. However, the balanced Aquarius uses this objectivity to remain centered. Rather than get caught in the hurricane that is sadness and anger, the water bearer abides firmly in a state of awareness and clarity, hence the fixed nature of this sign. This transit will be an exploratory time. Venus in Aquarius encourages us to be very active and try things we’ve never done before. For example, you may now being experimenting with alternative/extreme sports, foods, movies, books, etc. Aquarians are not known for being warm and fuzzy, but they are fiercely loyal, even to a fault. The water bearer is a social butterfly. These types are constantly surrounded, physically and/or emotionally, by a web of supportive, interesting people.

Being a fixed sign means that Aquarius can be stubborn and slow to change. With Venus in Aquarius this may manifest as being argumentative and overly logical with others. This prickly side is often just an imbalanced manifestation of the water bearer’s immense passion. Aquarians are very concerned with the welfare of greater society. Indeed, the ultimate Aquarian dream is to live in a world full of people that work together in a cooperative, diverse and creative fashion: no money, no laws, no jails, no borders, no restrictions of any kind. The water bearer is the prototypical rebel and non-conformist - fight the power!

Emotional check-up

You may recall that Venus transited the water bearer’s opposite sign (Leo) way back in August. Themes that surface now are a reflection of our progress since then. Leo is the confident one, the talented actor, the attention-grabber; Aquarius is the public servant, the martyr, the selfless one. Both signs are equally obstinate and powerful. Leo and Aquarius both seek recognition and social connections. However, the water bearer has no patience for self-serving tendencies. Then as now, expect love to feel grandiose, but in a different way. Leo clings to love because it frees the Self from the bonds of the ego; Aquarius takes this newfound freedom and celebrates love in a collective sense. The water bearer does not tease or play just to draw out some impulsive declaration from a lover; infatuation is understood as a phase, nothing more. Romance takes a back seat now to adventures and intellectual activities.

Sourcing energy from the wind

If Aquarius is forced to stay put and sit around all day, your ear will likely be talked right off. Fire signs derive energy from creativity and sexuality; air signs source energy from the mind. Aquarians’ thinking and chattering usually stays pretty light and varied. The balanced water bearer has zero tolerance for drama. The bad news is that Aquarius has considerably less self-control when it comes to material possessions. Watch for the impulse to buy peculiar and/or unnecessary items. Imbalanced Aquarians are also notoriously messy!

The unemotional approach continues

As with Venus in Capricorn, you might be feeling slightly unemotional now. Balanced Aquarian energy is self-sustaining and independent. Unlike the lion, the water bearer fares well in arguments, should they arise. Both signs have a temper, but the balanced Aquarius comes armed with facts and logic; Leo lives fearlessly from the heart, often saying things in the heat of the moment that may be perfectly true but perhaps not so pretty on the ears. Expect to feel a surge of mental and social energy. Venus in Aquarius will get you off the couch and out mingling in no time.

Venus leads just ahead of the Sun, following Mars into the winds of Aquarius: a hint of what’s to come next month. Venus in Capricorn allowed us a brief respite between the dancing, swirling, expansive energy of Sagittarius and the eclectic, eccentric, electric energy of the water bearer. Get ready to ditch your most beloved conventions in favor of something more exotic. Hoist your freak flag!
