May 15 - June 8, 2019
Venus rules Taurus (and Libra), so she is “at home” here in Taurus. The bull is simple and familiar, representing basic human needs like touch, home, comfort, food and raw materials. Earth energy sits honey-dappled, sweet and heavy, juicy and ripe. Taurus lives in the body’s warm weight, wrapped in blankets; full bellies; passionate melodies; rich food; hot mugs of tea on cold nights; caresses; art, and all things savory, luscious and aromatic. Venus is a lavish, materialistic goddess in her bull pen. Indulgence, Venus and Taurus are all synonymous.
With Venus in Taurus, the heart is as sensual as it is stubborn. As a Taurus, I can attest that it is a constant struggle to overcome lust and desire for material comforts. We can be stingy, lazy, possessive. We languor in self-satisfaction and complacency. But we are also sincere and straightforward, averse to superficiality, and unabashedly tactile.
Another Taurus friend told me once that she doesn’t “like to think about outer space.” This statement reveals much about the bull, her need for control and her attitude toward the terrestrial world. The karmic purpose behind incarnation as a bull is to learn the ultimate unimportance of the material world. What we see is only one sliver in an infinite spectrum of dimensions. The fixed, heavy energy of Taurus tends to calcify as the years pass. Older bulls often settle or give up, like rocks lodged upright in the river of evolution. Yet we all have an obligation to be accountable and self-aware, to become.
On the same day that Venus enters Taurus, Mars enters the constellation of Cancer the crab. Taurus and Cancer are very similar. Both are associated with home, comfort, nourishment and divine feminine power. This first day of Venus in Taurus / Mars in Cancer (May 15) is a wonderful day to beautify your home space, pet some cats and bake some cookies.
On the full moon of May 18, Venus will be conjunct Uranus in Taurus. Prepare for a highly social day. Uranian influence is eccentric and unorthodox. The people with whom we interact will be charismatic, with strong personalities. We may be introduced to new spiritual concepts through someone we meet. One paradox that is important to keep in mind with Uranus: though we feel more tolerant and open-minded, we cling tightly to our own beliefs and ways of living. And though we will crave social contact, we will also crave our own personal space and freedom. Nonetheless, expect a very exciting, dynamic full moon! A good day to get out of your comfort zone and do something unusual.
On May 21, both the Sun & Mercury transition from Taurus to Gemini. Ten days later on May 31, Venus forms a harmonious trine to Saturn Retrograde in Capricorn. We are likely to meet people who help us in the professional sphere. For example, we may be offered new work or get introduced to an important mentor. Saturn’s influence promotes trust and devotion.
Lastly on June 2, Venus trines Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn. Together, Venus and Pluto gift us with exceptional passion and intuition. We will be able to truly feel what others are feeling and help them recognize their own worth and value. With this aspect, we gravitate toward relationships which are transformative, meaningful and intense. This trine reminds us that love and responsibility are inseparable.
While Venus is in Taurus, she will be obscured by the light of the sun. Channel the bull with nature walks and Taurus Yoga. Listen to “Venus, Bringer of Peace” from Gustav Holt’s planetary suite.
