To be very clear, planets in retrograde are not actually spinning backwards – it is entirely an optical illusion as seen from Earth. Backwards motion appears to happen when Earth passes slower moving planets in the outer solar system. Ruler of fixed air sign and notorious rebel Aquarius, Uranus is all about freedom. He defies tradition and embraces uniqueness. Uranian energy is innovative, original and progressive. Areas of life associated with this planet are electricity, technology, enlightenment, objectivity, ingenuity, investigation and discovery. When balanced, Uranian energy is the spark that illuminates curiosity, propelling us to ask questions and explore ardently. Imbalanced Uranian energy might make you feel reckless, restless, extreme, forceful, overreactive or irresponsible. Uranus loves nothing more than to make waves, disrupting the agenda of The Man.
With Uranus retrograde, we were asked to examine our freedom and authenticity. I hope that you successfully confronted fears and blocks, in particular those which prevented you from being spontaneous. As predicted, I found that revelations came suddenly and that priorities and values quickly made themselves clear; problems popped up immediately and aggressively, making them impossible to ignore. For the last five months, all who were balanced gained new conscious awareness.
We are now leaving a deep labyrinth of mental analysis. Uranus retrograde asked: what have you blindly accepted? This transit pushed me out of jobs, relationships, perspectives and behaviors that had trapped me in a state of unawareness. I observed that some people, myself included, could feel that things were changing but still felt powerless to harness the energy of these shifts. Don’t worry: you’ve just spent a lot of time processing said changes so that you may now act on them. On that note, it is not uncommon to feel lost or anxious during Uranus Rx transits. Every retrograde period lifts a veil. What we see underneath is not always what we desire, but this is often because we have gotten too comfortable.
On a broader scale, Uranus retrograde manifests as general unrest in society. Things that have been covered up, suppressed or ignored will only continue to be unearthed with Uranus transiting ferocious Aries. Conventions and traditions are challenged - change follows suit. Political systems are faced with opposition like we’ve never seen in this postmodern epoch. This is a result of Aries energy interacting with Uranus’ unorthodox, groundbreaking energy. Whatever we’ve been doing up until now is obviously not working. The fiery ram, being the first sign in the zodiac, demands a return to square one. All that has been hidden now resurfaces. Corruption, scandal and hypocrisy are dinosaurs wheezing their last breaths.
With Uranus turning direct now, expect your inner rebel to step back up to the plate. We are active and confident, ready once again to express our true, uninhibited Self. Some interpretations of Uranus state that we feel more rebellious during retrograde periods, but I disagree. Uranus Retrograde gives us better access to our intuition and instincts; when Uranus turns direct, we can then boldly apply that inner wisdom in the external world by making necessary changes, even risky ones. It’s time to dance, take chances, sing at the top of your lungs and shake off any guilt, frustration, blame, embarrassment, sadness, anger or WHATEVER it is that’s weighing you down and keeping you from moving forward.
