The Full Moon is a symbolic time of reaping the seeds we have sown with the New Moon in Virgo. This particular phase is actually known as the Full Harvest Moon. All that we set out to achieve during the Virgo cycle now comes to culmination. The Moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise.
The Sun and Moon will now face each other in total opposition between mutable earth Virgo and mutable water Pisces: reality vs. dreams. Pisces is the most spiritual sign of the zodiac, the dissolver of the many into the One. Pisces is concerned with transcendence and seeking power through the richness of the inner world. This is a time when we embrace our most passionate fantasies, hopes, wishes and ideals. There is a tendency to ignore details and don our rose-colored glasses. This transit brings to mind beliefs and introspection. Pisces is the sign of two fishes swimming in opposition, perpetually chasing tails. The shadow side of this transit manifests as emotional turmoil and the inability to emerge from the depths of the mind. I associate Pisces with all things mystical, visionary and imaginative.
The Virgo-Pisces polarity is a wonderful opportunity to work on achieving balance between the conscious and subconscious mind. Unlike methodical Virgo, Pisces energy is wandering and fanciful. The Moon in Pisces encourages us to listen to messages we receive from our guides and inner voices. We reach now for what inspires us. Our inclination is to sink below the surface, the thinking mind, to explore the root source of our feelings. This is not a very social phase. Expect to feel the need to spend time alone, perhaps meditating or simply basking in silence. If you are balanced, this Full Moon may take the form of a spiritual awakening. Pisces, being a mutable sign, is prone to frequent changes in direction. In this case, the changes occur within the psyche. The energy of this transit is solitary and reflective. When taken to the extreme, Pisces is passive aggressive, impractical and brooding. The challenge here is to focus both on the details and the big picture at the same time. There exists a temptation to get lost in the mind.
Pisces favors the following activities: artistic endeavors, spending time near water, getting lost in a book, self-care, spending a day at the spa, staying in to watch movies, journaling and catching up on sleep. I like to visualize this transit as a swimmer suspended in holy water, detached from physical limitations and the passage of time. The energy here is free-flowing: folding, flowering, fading, reemerging again and again. Expect this Full Moon to be a potentially volatile phase. Whenever the Moon transits a water sign, emotions run high.
This phase of the Moon asks us to journey within. Pisces is the state of mind we experience while in a trance. Here we understand the union of all things, our connection to the Divine. Many Pisces express a desire to “leave this world” or transform the collective reality. Confrontation of any kind is especially painful for the fish. The instinct here is to swim away and hide in the safety of the darkness. When imbalanced, Pisces is easily overwhelmed, preferring avoidance to action. Often people born under this sign struggle to come out of their cocoons and be present.
Opposite signs on the zodiac wheel have inherent differences, but they also have a lot in common. Pisces and Virgo both want to be of service to the greater good. However, Virgo possesses a directness and work ethic that the fish often lacks: finite vs. infinite. Virgos may become quickly annoyed with Pisces, labeling these types as too wishy-washy and touchy-feely. Too much Virgo energy makes us tight and rigid. However, Virgo reminds the fish that it is dangerous to ignore our surroundings; and Pisces teaches us that we become mechanical and insensitive if we fail to regularly tap into our sentimental side. My favorite art teacher once told me that we cannot create and analyze at the same time - these are two separate, conflicting processes.

YOGA CHALLENGE
Pisces rules the feet. Try giving your feet some extra love with a pedicure or a massage. A lovely yoga pose that connects us to our feet is baddha konasana, cobbler pose. Lying down or in a seated position, bring the soles of the feet to touch and let the knees fall out wide. You might even bring the outside edges of the feet together and then peel the arches away, like you are opening a book. Make this a yin posture: no forcing or pushing, spine rounded, head and neck hanging loose. And breeeeathe.
