At the Full Moon we reap the seeds sown with every New Moon. This particular Full Moon is known as the Full Cold Moon for obvious reasons. All that we intended during the Sagittarius cycle now comes to culmination. The Moon will rise at sunset, peak at midnight and set at sunrise.
The Sun and Moon face each other in total opposition between mutable fire Sagittarius and mutable air Gemini: spirituality vs. intellect. Gemini is the first of the air signs in the zodiac realm. Signs that come early in the line-up tend to struggle with the fundamentals. The greatest challenge for Geminis is stilling the mind. Out of all the signs, Gemini is undoubtedly the least calm.
Let the mania begin
In classic astrology Gemini is associated with communication, writing, speech and duality. This sign has an extraordinary amount of mental energy, usually spilling over into physical energy, manifesting as fidgeting or nervous tics. Many Geminis are writers, poets and artists. When imbalanced, this sign is overly talkative, noncommittal, flighty or indecisive.
If they can properly channel the multitude of thoughts and ideas constantly billowing around their mind, Geminis are truly remarkable. The shadow side lies in the twin nature. Perhaps one twin dominates today, the other tomorrow. It is hard to know exactly where Gemini loyalty truly lies, but anyone who can learn to read them well begins to understand what’s going on inside the busy Gemini mind; this understanding leads to sympathy and compassion - it’s not easy to be constantly in motion! One reason imbalanced Geminis have a tendency to lie, remain silent or blatantly avoid certain people or situations is simply because they talk so much and (often) with dramatic effect that they are forced to cover up, go back on their word or otherwise add one story on top of another, in the process only continuing to talk more, digging the hole ever deeper…!
Words vs. wordlessness
The Gemini-Sagittarius polarity is between words and wordlessness. Whereas Gemini immediately resorts to logic and talking/writing through things in order to understand them intellectually, Sagittarius innately recognizes that there are some things in life that simply must be experienced in order to be known: as Tao master Lao Tzu decried, the way that can be named is not the Way. Last month’s Full Moon was relatively quiet compared to what I expect this weekend. I find that Gemini energy makes us want to go out and get kind of crazy, so watch for impulsive behavior.
You might get around now to finally writing letters/emails and making phone calls that have been put off for too long. No matter what, this phase is bound to be colorful, energetic and vocal. Some interpretations of the Gemini nature state that this sign does not enjoy venturing beyond a certain comfort zone. However, I’m inclined to believe that this comfort zone applies only to the habits and mental patterns of the individual, because when it comes to traveling, changing appearances and switching careers, no one is more masterful than Gemini.
Relax your mind
There is something very real and raw about the Gemini soul. Their words and actions are like unedited manuscripts, full to bursting with little notes and additions and hurriedly scrawled advice. To the untrained eye, Geminis are calm, cool and collected. Hiding just under the surface of this carefully manicured facade is a bundle of nervous energy. The mind of the twins is like a newborn colt just itching to run. Most Geminis will tell you that they have incredible difficulty staying in relationships, jobs or physical locations for very long. Just as quickly as they become intrigued by people and things, which is very quickly, Geminis are known to then drop these interests as though nothing ever happened.
Opposite signs on the zodiac wheel have inherent differences, but they also have a lot in common. Gemini and Sagittarius both find freedom in the mind’s capacity to expand and absorb new information. However, the archer is more comfortable accepting the mysteries of life. There is a certain seriousness to the unemotional, ultra rational approach of the twins; Sagittarius is anything but serious. Too much Sagittarius energy makes our speech vague, uninformed and wishy-washy. Too much Gemini energy makes us tight and rigid, seated firmly in the waking, active, thinking mind; Gemini wants to categorize, discern, label, sort, identify. The archer reminds the twins that it’s unhealthy for body and spirit to rely on the mind, grasping our intellect with clenched fists, unwilling or unable to relax and allow room for the unknown; the twins remind the centaur that there is much to be gained when we are precise and accurate in our speech and communication. So - which way are you leaning? Tune in, listen closely.
