The Sun in Leo squares the moon in Scorpio. The moon will rise at noon, peak at dusk and set at midnight. The week between the first quarter and full moon (Aug 10-18) is the most potent of the lunar cycle. Quarter moons prompt definitive change. This is a checkpoint. According to CafeAstrology, quarter phases represent a “crisis of consciousness.”

Here we are on the lion path: an intoxicating encounter with Scorpio, master of transformation. The First Quarter Moon in Scorpio addresses trust issues as well as power and control struggles. Scorpio and Leo have little in common besides their doggedly fixed nature. Both are content to be as such! Leo is the self-centered child of the zodiac, and Scorpio the dark and brooding introvert with dwindling faith in humanity. The scorpion is easily frustrated by Leo’s insistence on me. Indeed the ego is operating in full force, you’ve been warned! But it’s not just Leo - the scorpion is a vicious creature with an acid tongue, so for the love of Buddha, keep the poison in check. We’re going to want to fight or pick at the ones we love, but we shouldn’t, we already know how it will end. Take a deep breath and let it go, it can’t be that important.

Leo seeks company with direct, straightforward personalities. This is not how Scorpio operates. Moreover, Scorpio is not about to entertain a room full of people, as Leo would. Leo fears the scorpion’s complexity, preferring a simple yet playful life. Scorpio, on the other hand, fears letting go and living spontaneously. We must find a path that is not too dark – not too much scorpion suspicion – but not too light either – not too much leonine idealism or unchecked trust in the world.

Leo is ruled by the Sun, the center of our solar system, and Scorpio by Pluto, the planet farthest from center. With just this metaphor we see how different these two are. Imagine the Sun and Pluto stretching their arms over the vast cosmic distance between, intertwining in some remote asteroid belt. Together they render irreversible change. Watch for emotional volatility and outbursts.

Scorpio lives cautiously because she is so familiar with the Underworld. She recognizes that at any moment, the shadows within may arise and wreak havoc. Scorpio would do well to learn from Leo’s sunny disposition, just as Leo would do well to be more wary, to learn how to read others with more accuracy.

What we want and what we receive may appear to be different, but in actuality they are not. The physical mind is not designed to shape or create the future. This is the sole responsibility of the higher mind. Embrace uncertainty, cultivate trust in the unseen. It is neither our privilege nor our burden to know what comes next. Assume nothing!
